Engine Room

Two cars, same fuel. One burns it, one wears it. Drive 12 weeks and see why fat loss and weight loss are not the same thing.

You start as the small car

Every bit of fuel your tank can't use gets strapped to the roof. Grab enough fuel to keep driving, dodge the excess, and train to build a bigger engine that burns more.

Keep the tank in the lean burn zone (the shaded left part of the gauge) to burn the stored fuel off. Let it hit empty and the car starts stripping its own engine.

Move lanes with ← → or A / D, tap either side of the road, or use the buttons. P pauses.

The GLP-1 route shows how appetite medication changes the drive. GLP-1s are prescribed and monitored by a doctor. This game isn't medical advice.

The two-car story

High-performance car

Big engine, lots of muscle and power. Needs a lot of fuel and uses it fast, so very little is left over to store.

Small car

Can only use half the fuel. Instead of using less or upgrading the engine, it straps the spare fuel to the roof and sides, and keeps going until something changes or the wheels come off.

What's on the road

  • Fuel
Food. You need some. What your tank can't hold becomes stored fat.
  • 8–12 reps
Hypertrophy training. Grows the engine, so it burns more fuel all day.
  • Heavy 3–5
Strength training. Strengthens the chassis: sharper handling, tyres cope with more load.
  • Protein
Raw material for the engine. Protects it from being stripped for a few seconds.
  • Juice cleanse
Empties the tank. The scale drops fast, but it's mostly water, and the engine pays for it.

How to win

Winning isn't the lowest number on the scale. It's finishing week 12 with less fuel on the roof and a bigger engine than you started with.

Weight loss vs fat loss

The scale counts everything: fat, muscle, water and food in your gut. Starve the tank and the number drops quickly, but much of it is water, glycogen and muscle.

Fat loss is the stored fuel coming off the roof while the engine stays intact. Slower on the scale, far better in the mirror.

Why a bigger engine helps

Muscle costs more to run than fat, and training burns fuel on top of that. A bigger engine gives you more room to eat well and still sit in a small deficit.

The bigger win: training tells your body the engine is needed, so when fuel is lower it burns from the roof rack, not the motor.

Strength and hypertrophy

Hypertrophy work (moderate weights, 8–12 reps, close to failure) builds the size of the engine.

Heavy strength work (3–5 reps) builds the chassis: stronger tendons, bones and coordination, so you handle load and move better. The best programmes use both.

On a GLP-1?

These medications turn down appetite, so less fuel comes in and the roof rack empties. That's real fat loss.

The risk is that less fuel can also strip the engine. Lifting and enough protein protect it, so when appetite returns you're driving a bigger car. Always follow your prescriber's advice.
